I’m very torn with this film. There are commendable aspects here, I really dug the visuals and the way that the film was shot. The effects were pretty great as well. The sound mixing was great the score, fantastic. The lore and the look for our main villain was pretty cool, it took what felt like forever to get to him though. I really enjoyed Makenna Grace as Phoebe and she had the most compelling storyline but even that was tainted by writing that was all over the place.
The biggest flaw with this film was the writing. The script is extremely messy for a rather straight forward plot. There were multiple plot lines here that were pretty predictable and didn’t seem to converge quick enough which made for a pretty boring experience, especially in the second act. By the time everything was connected and we get to the third act it’s fine but at that point I didn’t really care what was going on.
The nostalgia aspect was fine to me. I didn’t find it to be overload like most did but I will fully admit that the chemistry between the OG characters and the newer characters weren’t nearly as strong as it was in Afterlife and it lacked emotional depth, charm and heart.
This movie was very unfunny as well, there were MAYBE one to two chuckles but there were so many times where there would be a set up for a joke and the punchline just fell completely flat.
I don’t really know what the writers were on when they were writing the story and dialogue but the ones who were over editing, the score, and visuals showed up to work. A few tweaks to the script and a shorter runtime, this honestly could’ve been great.
